Despite the world of turmoil we live in, Summer is the magical season for most of us, with festivals, warm weather, the lush growing seasons, and outdoor activities. In the Midwest, there’s none better than the old-time fun in McHenry County, Illinois.

Topping my list this year is: the 28th Annual Woodstock Mozart Festival

August 2-3 & 9-10:
This year’s festival began in July and carries over into August in the historic 1880’s Woodstock Opera House on Woodstock Square and at the fabulous Place de la Musique on the Sanfilippo estate nearby. In addition to symphonies and concertos by Mozart there are compositions by Rossini, Hayden, Mendelssohn, Warlock, Piazolla and Vivaldi featuring internationally-renowned conductors and soloists. Check www.mozartfest.org and www.sanfilippofoundation.org/woodstock-mozart-festival.html for performance schedules and ticket information.

Also, the Opera House is a short walk from the Woodstock Metra Station on the Union Pacific/Northwest Line. Check schedules here: www.metrarail.com.
