NachusaIllinois, the Prairie State, has over 3,000 acres of prairie, oak savanna, and wetland habitats restored by The Nature Conservancy. It is a critical habitat for migratory birds, and in Fall 2014, it will also be home to bison.  Yes, the conservancy in Illinois has restored the Nachusa Grasslands to a level that can support bison and other wildlife. This revives a species that was brought to the brink of extinction in the early 20th century.
